Sarah Gambrell is the Chairman Emeritus of the The Gambrell Foundation. A lifelong philanthropic leader, she is an accomplished business leader and our own original difference maker. After recently celebrating her 100th birthday, Sarah shows no desire for “retirement” and is still involved in key causes she holds dear. A self-described rebel, Sarah has always held a vision for creating change, leading herself, and charging others to help lead. Sarah held numerous positions at Belk Stores during her lifelong career including serving on the Board of Directors and leading the Belk Stores buying efforts in New York City. She is a 1939 graduate of Sweet Briar College and was married to the late Charles Gambrell. Sarah has been honored by many organizations that she has supported including the arts, education, and many women’s organizations. She served on numerous boards including the YWCA. Sarah was recently honored when Queen’s University named the Sarah Belk Gambrell Center for Arts and Civic Engagement in her honor.
