Sarah Gambrell was the Chairman Emerita of The Gambrell Foundation. She was an accomplished business leader and our own original difference maker. A self-described rebel, Sarah has always held a vision for creating change, leading herself, and charging others to help lead. Sarah held numerous positions at Belk Stores during her lifelong career including serving on the Board of Directors and leading the Belk Stores buying efforts in New York City. She was a 1939 graduate of Sweet Briar College and was married to Charles Gambrell. Sarah was honored by many organizations that she supported including the arts, education, and many women’s organizations. She served on numerous boards including the YWCA. Sarah was honored in 2020 when Queen’s University named the Sarah Belk Gambrell Center for Arts and Civic Engagement in her honor.
